Prof. Dr. Avishai Sadan

Dr. Sadan is Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and Professor and Chairman, Department of Comprehensive Care, Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio. He is the former editor-in-chief of Quintessence International, the former editor-in-chief of Quintessence of Dental Technology (QDT), served on the editorial boards of other journals, and has lectured and published nationally and internationally on esthetic and implant dentistry and biomaterials. Dr. Sadan is a graduate of Hebrew University Hadassah School of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem, Israel where he has also completed an internship in maxillofacial prosthodontics and oral medicine. He received his training in prosthodontics from the LSU School of Dentistry and has also completed a fellowship in prosthodontics emphasizing esthetic and implant dentistry at LSU. A member of several professional organizations including the American College of Prosthodontists, the Academy of Osseointegration, the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, the American College of Dentists, OKU Dental Honor Society, Pierre Fauchard Academy, and other organizations, he maintains an intramural practice limited to fixed and implant prosthodontics.

Graduated in 1988 in Münster/Germany, 1996 PhD-Thesis and Associate Professor. Since 2002 Professor at the Department of Operative Dentistry, University of Münster, Germany. Executive board member of the German Society of Operative Dentistry (DGZ) from 1995 until 2005, and since 2004 executive board member of the Study group for Endodontology and Traumatology (AGET) associated with the German Society of Operative Dentistry. In December 2006 call on a chair at University of Leipzig, Germany, as Head of the Department of Operative Dentistry and Periodontology (declined to accept).

Certified specialist for Endodontology of the DGZ, active and certified member of the European Society of Endodontology (ESE), associate member of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) and member of the scientific board of the Journal of Endodontics and several other endodontic journals. Currently Managing Editor-in-Chief of the international journal ENDO-Endodontic Practice Today, co-Editor of a German textbook on Endodontic Problems, author of a German textbook on Endodontic emergency treatment.

Priv.-Doz. Dr. Jörg F. Schirrmeister studied dentistry from 1996 to 2001 at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg. In 2002 he started work in the Department of Operative Dentistry and Periodontology at the University clinic and dental school in Freiburg (Head: Prof. Dr. E. Hellwig) with the focus on Endodontics. 2003 he finished his dissertation on calcium phosphate based root filling materials. Since 2006 he is "Specialist for Endodontics" (German Society of Operative Dentistry). In 2007 he finished his PhD Thesis (Habilitation) "Mechanical and microbial aspects during root canal retreatment". He is member of the scientific board of the "Endodontie" and referee for several journals. Since 2008 he is associate Professor. He is member in national and international societies and "Certified Member of the European Society of Endodontology"

Jan Schünemann

MDT Stefan Schunke

MDT Stefan Schunke was born in 1958 in Leverkusen/Germany. In 1976, he started an apprenticeship as a Dental Technician in Leverkusen/Germany. After graduation in 1980, he attended a course in waxing up and Gnathologie. Since then he has been highly interested in the occlusal surfaces of the fully operational, esthetical and healthy set of teeth and wanted to learn about the fundamental. This is why he started to work for Mdt. Bölte in Düsseldorf/Germany, worked for them for three years and got his degree as a supervisor externally. Several courses followed that added to his knowledge. Through theses classes Stefan Schunke recognized the value of the biomechanical waxing up from M. H. Polz. In 1988, he started working for the "Zahntechnisches Laboratorium M. H. Polz" and became partner. Since 1991, M. Polz jr. and Stefan Schunke are partners and owners of this laboratory.

Stefan Schunke worked for the "Bensheimer Arbeitskreis" for several years.

PD Dr. Frank Schwarz ist Fachzahnarzt für Oralchirurgie und leitender Oberarzt an der Poliklinik für Zahnärztliche Chirurgie der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (Direktor: Univ. Prof. Dr. Jürgen Becker). Nach dem Studium der Zahnmedizin an der Universität des Saarlandes arbeitete Dr. Schwarz von 1999 bis 2000 als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter in der Poliklinik für Parodontologie und Zahnerhaltung der Universität des Saarlandes. Es folgten 2 Jahre als Weiterbildungsassistent Oralchirurgie in der Klinik und Poliklinik für MKG-Chrirugie der LMU München. Die Promotion erfolgte im Jahr 2001. Seit April 2002 wirkt Dr. Schwarz an der Heinrich Heine Universität Düsseldorf, zunächst als Weiterbildungsassistent Oralchirurgie in der Poliklinik für Zahnärztliche Chirurgie und Aufnahme. Ein Jahr später erhält er die Gebietsbezeichnung Fachzahnarzt für Oralchirurgie. Anfang 2004 erfolgte die Ernennung zum Oberarzt, 2005 die Habilitation für das Fach Zahn-, Mund- und Kieferheilkunde.

Zu seinen Forschungsschwerpunkten gehört neben der Osseointegration von Titanimplantatoberflächen die gesteuerte Geweberegeneration, der Einsatz von Wachstumsfaktoren im Rahmen augmentativer Verfahren sowie die Therapie periimplantärer Entzündungen. Dr. Schwarz ist u.a. Editorial Board Member des Journal of Clinical Periodontology und erhielt für seine Forschungsergebnisse zur Hart- und Weichgewebsintegration von hydrophilen Titanimplantatoberflächen den André Schroeder Research Prize 2007.

Dr. Krzystof T. Sliwowski

Dr. Josef-Maximilian Sobek

Dr. Sobek, Jahrgang 1953, studierte Zahnmedizin in Münster. Examen und Promotion folgten 1979. Am Ende der Assistenzzeit, die er in unterschiedlichen Praxen absolvierte, stand 1982 die Niederlassung in eigener freier Praxis in Hamm. Seit Januar 2007 betreibt er zusätzlich gemeinsam mit Kollegen eine Privatpraxis in Salzburg.
Seine berufspolitische Arbeit begann 1984 als Fachkundelehrer an der Berufsschule sowie als Mitglied, später als Vorsitzender eines Wirtschaftlichkeitsprüfungsausschusses bei der KZV Westfalen-Lippe. Als Vertrags- und Privatgutachter ist er seit 1986 vielfach mit dem Gebührenrecht konfrontiert, sei es im Bereich der Planungsgutachten oder als Sachverständiger vor Amts- und Landgerichten oder beim Oberlandesgericht.
1989 wurde er erstmals in die Kammerversammlung und anschließend in den Vorstand der Zahnärztekammer Westfalen-Lippe gewählt. Dem Vorstand gehörte er bis zum Jahr 2006, davon vier Jahre als dessen Vizepräsident, ununterbrochen an. Zu seinen Aufgabenbereichen gehörte unter anderem das GOZ-Referat. Bei der Bundeszahnärztekammer war er ab 1994 Mitglied im GOZ-Arbeitsausschuss, der später in den Senat für privates Leistungs- und Gebührenrecht überführt wurde. In diesem Gremium gehört er bis heute der Kernarbeitsgruppe an, die maßgeblich an der Erarbeitung der Honorarordnung für Zahnärzte (HOZ) beteiligt war und die GOZ-Novelle im Bundesgesundheitsministerium beratend begleitet hat.
Bis heute entstanden zahlreiche Vorträge und Veröffentlichungen. Als freier Beratungszahnarzt des Westdeutschen Rundfunk ist er zudem vielen Radiohörern bekannt.

Hans-Peter Spielmann, born in Switzerland, graduated in Dental Technology in 1968. He received his Master of Science Degree at Boston University of Graduate Dentistry in 1981.
From 1973 to 1981 he gained additional professional experience in several places abroad, such as Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro, Rome and Boston.
Back in Switzerland, he started his own laboratory and he lectured in his home country as well as abroad on all subjects of Dental Technology. He also published numerous papers on ceramo-alloy and implantology.

MDT Hans-Peter Spielmann

Prof. Dr. Christian H. Splieth

Prof. Dr. Ch. H. Splieth studied dentistry in Göttingen/Germany, Leeds/England and Minneapolis/USA, where got to know modern concepts of caries prevention and paediatric dentistry. Afterwards, he has been employed in private dental practices with special focus on preventive dentistry and high quality restorations for three years. 1993 he returned to university and since then his research focus in Greifswald has been cariology, prevention and paediatric dentistry. Christian Splieth is participant of the Greifswald research project "Community Dentistry", which examines the prevalence, risk factors and preventive measures of oral diseases. He was engaged in a research partnership and exchange programs with Sweden, Denmark and Finland where long-term experience with the implementation of preventive programs exist. 1997, 1998 and 2000 Dr. Splieth won research prizes for papers on the comparison of sealants and fluoride applications, the use of site-specific Mutans Streptococci tests and the microbial flora under fillings. He is of several books on professional prevention, pediatric dentistry, early orthodontic treatment, non- and minimally-invasive dentisty.
In 2004 he chaired Paediatric Dentistry and Prevention at the University Kiel/Germany. Since 2005 he is head of the Department for Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Greifswald.

Dr. Roberto Spreafico obtained his DM degree at Turin University, Italy, in 1982. In 1986, he obtained a DMD degree, at Geneva University, Switzerland. He is now a private practitioner, in Busto-Arsizio, near Milan, Italy. He is active member of: Accademia Italiana di Conservativa, European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, Associate Editor of "European Journal of Esthetic Dentistry". Member of the editorial board of: Journal of Adhesive Dentistry; Practical Procedures & Aesthetic Dentistry. Dr. Spreafico presently conducts a number of courses in the field of esthetic dentistry throughout Italy and abroad. He is also author of numerous clinical papers on this topic. Author of 7 book chapters . Co-authored the book "Adhesive Metal-Free Restorations: current concepts for the esthetic treatment of posterior teeth" by Quintessence Publishing Group (1997).

Dr. Roberto Spreafico

Professor Stanford holds the position of Associate Dean for Research and the Centennial Fund Professorship for Clinical and Translational Research in the Dows Institute for Dental Research and in the Department of Prosthodontics, College of Dentistry, The University of Iowa. He also holds appointments in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Sciences, Roy J Carver College of Medicine and the Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering at the University of Iowa.
Dr. Stanford received his BS (1984), DDS (1987), Certificate in Prosthodontics and Ph.D. (Molecular Cell Biology; 1992) from the University of Iowa. He has been on the faculty at the University of Iowa since 1992. His basic research interests deals with the areas of osteoblastic gene expression. He is the Associate Director for the NIH Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute at the University of Iowa. In this role he helps to organize and perform basic, translational and clinical research studies. He is also CoDirector of the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Institute at Iowa (NNI@UI).
Dr. Stanford is the author 10 book chapters, 92 published papers and more than 200 published research abstracts. He received research funding from NIH, Foundations and from industry. He currently serves on multiple national and international committees. These include leadership positions in the International Association for Dental Research, the American Dental Association and American College of Prosthodontists (ACP). He is the recipient of 18 academic awards most recently the Distinguished Scientist Award from the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the State of Iowa Regents Awards for Faculty Excellence.

Dr. Philipp Streckbein

Prof. Dr. Jörg R. Strub

Dr. J. R. Strub, born in 1948 in Olten, Switzerland, received his D.D.S., Dr. Med. Dent. and Dr. Med. Dent. Habil. (PhD equiv) degrees from the University of Zurich, Switzerland.
He was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Biomaterials at Tulane University and Louisiana State University, New Orleans, USA, 1982-1983 and was formerly Associate Professor and co-director of the Graduate Programme in Periodontal Prosthetics at the University of Zurich.
Since 1988 Dr. Strub has been Professor and Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics at the Albert-Ludwig University in Freiburg, Germany.
He was a Visiting Clinical Professor of Fixed Prosthodontics at the Osaka University in Osaka, Japan in 1996.

Prof. Dr. James Bruce Summitt

Dr. Summitt is currently professor and chair, Department of Restorative Dentistry, University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSC), San Antonio, Texas. He has been actively involved in research in the area of current restorative dentistry techniques and materials, including adhesive systems and resin-based composites. He has published over 160 papers, book chapters, and abstracts concerning subjects related to restorative dentistry. He is a member of the editorial boards for Operative Dentistry, the American Journal of Dentistry and the Journal of Evidence-Based Dental Practice. He also serves as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of the American Dental Association, the Journal of Dentistry, Quintessence International, and the Journal of Dental Research. He is primary editor and co-author of the third edition of the textbook, "Fundamentals of Operative Dentistry: A Contemporary Approach", published by Quintessence Publishing Co. He has conducted many continuing education courses in the United States and abroad.

After receiving his DDS from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1971, Dr. Summitt joined the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps. He completed a two-year residency in general dentistry in 1977 at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center and received his MS degree in general dentistry from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. He taught in Air Force general dentistry residencies for five years and in 1984 became chairman of the Department of General Dentistry and director of the two-year General Dentistry Residency at Wilford Hall. In 1988, he became Director of Dental Services at Wilford Hall. He retired from the Air Force in 1989.

Dr. Summitt is past-president of the American Board of General Dentistry. He is a fellow of the American and International Colleges of Dentists and a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry. He also has memberships in the American Dental Association, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, the International and American Associations for Dental Research, the American Dental Education Association, and other professional organizations.
